USSA Level 100 Race Coaching Courses

SAS is offering a multi-level certification programme that provides training in sport-specific techniques and tactics, sport sciences and sport management.


USSA Level 100 Race Coaching Courses

The Level 100 certification is designed for entry-level coaches with at least 1-year of coaching experience. It is an introduction to the fundamentals of alpine ski racing and coaching.


All coaches beginning the certification process will need to successfully complete the following requirements in order to be a Certified Level 100 Coach:

  • Alpine Ski Fundamentals Course, on-snow Level 100
  • Coaching Principles (ASEP) Course and exam
  • First Aid/CPR Course

All new and current coaches who have achieved their Level 100 Coach Certification will be required to complete a continuing education credit every 2 years. Continuing education credits can be achieved by taking an on-snow clinic, reviewing any of the Elite Performance Series CD-ROMs and successfully passing the related examination, taking an online Sports Management course, etc. All Level 100 Certified coaches will be required to maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications in order to remain current.

Level 200 Certification
Level 200 Certification

The Level 200 Certification process is designed for coaches with one or more years of coaching experience who have already achieved their Level 100 Certification. The Level 200 curriculum introduces alpine tactics and begins the study of course setting.

All coaches beginning the Level 200 certification process will need to successfully complete the following requirements in order to be a Certified Level 200 Coach:

  1. Sport Specific Requirements: (2 on-snow clinics and related exams) All coaches must complete the two on-snow clinics listed below as well as complete and pass the related on-line examination for the course.
    1. Introduction to Alpine Tactics on-snow clinic and on-line exam
    2. Alpine Training Environment on-snow clinic and on-line exam

  2. Sport Science Requirements: (2 CD-ROMs and related on-line exams) All coaches must review two of the three Elite Performance Series CD-ROMs and take the related on-line examinations. Coaches may choose two of the three listed below:
    1. USSA Sports Psychology
    2. USSA Strength and Power Training
    3. USSA Sports Nutrition

  3. Sports Management Requirements: (2 on-line courses) All coaches must complete two on-line Sports Management courses hosted by USSA. Coaches may choose from three on-line courses presently offered by George Washington University.

  4. Level 1 Referee Requirement: All coaches must have a valid Level 1 referee certification.

  5. First Aid/CPR Requirement: All coaches must have valid CPR and First Aid certifications.

All new and current coaches who have achieved their Level 200 Coach Certification will be required to complete a continuing education credit every 2 years.

All Level 200 Certified coaches will be required to maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications in order to remain current.

Mogul Programmes

Mogul skiing is one of the greatest challenges (and fears!) a skier can face, but once conquered you'll never want to ski anything else! We will be using our specialist mogul ski coaches to teach you the most effective and efficient way to ski bumps. We will give you the knowledge, skills and the latest modern techniques to tackle any mogul field with confidence and style!


The coaches will provide you with constant feedback throughout the ski day with video sessions and personal development programmes in the evening.


A typical week's course includes:

  • 25hrs+ Personal mogul ski performance
  • Video analysis
  • Evening feedback sessions (optional)
  • SAS evaluation and debrief

We have many programmes to suit and these can vary in length from 1 to 4 weeks focusing on clients specific needs. Please contact the office for a tailored programme. The mogul programmes will be based in Gstaad.

ISIA and ISTD Training

The ISIA and ISTD training have been designed for experienced instructors to move forwards in their career as a Snowsport instructor. The ISIA qualification is a big step forward, but with the help of are experienced top qualified coaches we can fulfil your potential.


The coaches will provide you with constant feedback throughout the ski day with video sessions and personal development programmes in the evening.


A typical week's course includes:

  • 25 hrs+ Personal Skiing Performance
  • 20 hrs+ Shadowing top instructors
  • Skier analysis and leadership skills
  • Teaching skills and techniques
  • Off-Piste and Mountain Safety
  • Race training

We have many programmes to suit and these can vary in length from 1 to 4 weeks focusing on clients specific needs. Please contact the office for a tailored programme. The ski and teacher training will be based in Gstaad and Saas-Fee.
